I had previous been in financial services for 10+ years. The majority of that time was spent at Merrill Lynch, where I worked in Electronic Sales Trading. While there, I fell in love with coding. It all started with some VBA scripting, which peaked my interest in programming and eventual desire to transition into a dev role.
After leaving Merrill, I took some design courses at Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture. Here I learned the process of design thinking and creative problem solving. What about coding you may be thinking?
Dev bootcamps were just starting to spring up and I was exploring the landscape. In the meantime I started an online footwear boutique. Here I learned all about entrepreneurship, SEO, digital marketing, and time management. It was an awesome experience but coding was still something I really wanted to pursue. This became apparent when I heard about General Assembly's Web Development Immersive Fellowship (Opportunity Fund).
I instantly applied and a few weeks later I was 1 of 6, out of a total pool of 600, chosen to be a WDI fellow. Here, I was able to hone my programming skills and build the sweet apps below. WDI was an amazing experience, which has given me an amazing foundation in programming, and now I'm ready to pursue a career in development.
